The Neuroaesthetics of Biophilia
Biophilia and Art: Exploring How Nature’s Beauty Shapes the Mind.
The Neuroaesthetics of Biophilia
At the heart of Biophilia and Art lies a scientific and contemplative question:
What happens in the human mind when we encounter beauty inspired by nature?
This inquiry emerges from the life and work of Dr. Koncha Pinós, who spent years living close to the forest, observing how silence, rhythm, and biodiversity awaken perception. Her tireless work as an explorer, meditator, and researcherhas given rise to a truly multidisciplinary perspective where neuroscience, art, and consciousness converge.
“When nature inspires beauty, the mind awakens.”
Two Lines of Research
“Art inspired by nature reveals beauty as a force of change.”
Pioneering methodology
1. Neuroaesthetics of Perception
Koncha has developed a pioneering methodology to study how art inspired by natural forms transforms perception:
- Voice & Prosody Analysis– detecting micro-emotional shifts when people describe what they see.
- Emotional Language Mapping– analyzing more than 50 categories of affective expression.
- Pre- and Post-Exposure Measures– comparing emotional and cognitive states before and after the exhibition.
- Symbolic Choice– 50 archetypal cards used to reveal how art resonates with the unconscious.
This research demonstrates that beauty is not ornamental but transformational: to look deeply is to be changed.
When Art Speaks, Water Remembers.
2. Consciousness of Water
In collaboration with the International Masaru Emoto Institute in Tokyo, Koncha has opened a second, groundbreaking line of inquiry: exploring how water can embody and express art.
- Original artworks areexposed to water, allowing their energetic imprint to be expressed in the formation of crystalline structures.
- These crystals are not random: they reflect theessence of the artwork itself, as if water were a living mirror of beauty.
- This work suggests thatart can speak at the molecular level of life, entering into dialogue with the very element that sustains us.
It is a unique innovation because it extends art beyond perception:
not only do we see it with our eyes, we also witness how it is registered in the consciousness of water—opening a new field where aesthetics, science, and the living world converge.

Art, Biophilia, and Environmental Engagement: Promoting Community Resilience and Pro-Environmental Behaviors

“When art speaks, water listens.”
Together, these two lines of research redefine what it means to study art.
They reveal that perception and consciousness are inseparable, and that beauty has the power to move us both at the level of the mind and at the level of life itself.
